Hemant works partly as Associate Professor for University of Canberra and partly as a Principal Advisor for Sydney based research and development consulting firm Institute for Study and Development Worldwide (IFSD). From his early career work in the Himalayan South Asia, Hemant has worked progressively across Asia and the Pacific as well as parts of Africa, with a strong focus on climate change, water security, and natural resources management. With his cross-disciplinary educational background of natural and social sciences, he champions locally based action research and multi-scalar political economy analysis for positive impacts on climate resilience and sustainable development. He has taught at Australia’s University of New South Wales, and has conducted research in Asia and Africa on a range of environmental governance issues. His Books have been published by Routledge and Cambridge and writes actively in both academic and public media. He has advised and consulted for programs of several international development agencies including Australian DFAT, the UK DFID, Canadian IDRC, USAID, Norwegian NORAD, Finish FINNIDA, and research agencies of Denmark, Canada, and the UK.
